OOKPIK Services Inc. Statement on Racism, Human Rights and Access to Education

We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all those acting to oppose and dismantle systemic racism of all forms. We denounce police brutality and violence, especially that which targets Black and Indigenous peoples.

Canada is a mosaic.

At the very heart of who we are, OOKPIK Services Inc. upholds and defends the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We recognize that freedom, justice, and peace in our world is only possible by accepting the inherent dignity, equality, and inalienable rights of all members of global society.

To that end, OOKPIK Services Inc. will always advocate for two fundamental principles:

  • That every person is entitled to the inalienable basic human right to education; and

  • That education be available without distinction of any kind, such as age, race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, language, religion, political or other opinion, ancestry, national or social origin, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, economic status, birth, or other status.

OOKPIK Services Inc. believes in, embraces, promotes, and values diversity. Diversity is Canada's strength.

As a learning organization, OOKPIK Services Inc. recognizes both our role in fostering diversity as a core principle in and across all projects and communications in which we are involved as well as continually seeking to learn, engage, reflect, and act in such a manner as would be expected of the socially responsible company and good corporate citizen we strive to be.

At its core, OOKPIK Services Inc. will always comport itself in such a way as to exhibit behaviours representative of our core values:

  • Caring

  • Learning

  • Integrity

  • Respect

  • Accountability

Furthermore, OOKPIK Services Inc. believes, embraces, and promotes that these core values and their representative behaviours must also be accorded to the natural world, of which we are part.

We acknowledge the existence of systemic barriers such as discrimination, inequity, and hate, as well as power imbalances due to privilege and colonial practices. In these regards, OOKPIK Services Inc. will always strive to work in ways that are inclusive, gender neutral, anti-racist, decolonized, and free from bias; ways that are respectful and that honour the relationships we establish in order to create learning environments in which people are free to pursue their passions and dreams.
